Tempo Privacy Policy
The short version
- Your shifts, pay and settings are stored only on your phone. Tempo has no account and no server.
- Tempo never tracks your route. It only records the time you arrive at or leave a workplace you added.
- Payslips you check are read on your phone. The file is never uploaded or kept; only the figures are saved.
- Tempo has no ads, no analytics and no tracking, and never sells or shares your data.
1. What Tempo stores, and where
Tempo is an app for counting the hours you work and the pay you earn. Everything you enter is kept in a database on your phone only:
- your workplaces (name, colour, hourly rate and pay rules, and the map location you choose for each one);
- your planned shifts and the shifts you worked (times, breaks, notes);
- your settings (language, country, tax profile, first day of the week, and the email address for reports);
- the time you arrived at or left a workplace, when automatic clock-in is on (see section 2);
- the figures from payslips you check (see section 3).
This data is never sent to us or to anyone else. We do not run any server for Tempo, and we cannot see your data. Tax amounts in Tempo are estimates calculated on your phone.
2. Location
Tempo uses your location only for these features, and only with your permission:
- The map: to show where you are and to help you place a workplace pin. Your position is not stored.
- Automatic clock-in and clock-out (optional, off by default for each workplace): on days you have a shift at a workplace, Tempo asks your phone to notice when you arrive at or leave a circle around that workplace (a “geofence”). This needs location access “Always” (iOS) or “Allow all the time” (Android). When you arrive during a shift, Tempo clocks you in. When you leave near the end of the shift, it clocks you out; when you leave earlier, it sends a notification asking whether to clock out, start a break or keep working. You can edit or delete any shift afterwards.
Tempo only watches the workplaces that have a shift in the next 7 days. It does not record continuous location or the route you travel. The only location-related data it stores is the time of each arrival or departure and which workplace it was. You can turn location off at any time in your phone’s settings; clocking in and out by hand always works without it.
3. Payslips, camera and photos
You can ask Tempo to check a payslip against the shifts you recorded. You choose the payslip yourself, as a PDF or file, a photo from your library, or a new photo taken with the camera. Tempo asks for access to your camera or photos only when you use these buttons, and only sees the one file or photo you pick.
- The payslip is read on your phone, using your phone’s own text recognition (Apple Vision on iPhone, Google ML Kit on Android, which runs on the device). It is never uploaded to us or to anyone else.
- Tempo does not keep the file or photo. Its copy is deleted as soon as the payslip has been read. Your original stays where it was, in your Files app or photo library.
- Tempo saves only the figures you confirm: the workplace, pay period, gross pay, other pay, hours, tax withheld and the hours × rate lines. Other details on the payslip, such as your name, address, tax file number or bank account, are not saved.
4. Services Tempo connects to
- Place search (Photon): when you type in the workplace search box, the text you type is sent to Photon (by komoot, using OpenStreetMap data) to find matching places. Your location is not sent. If you search for a street address and press Return, the text may instead be looked up by your phone’s own address service (Apple or Google).
- Maps: the map is provided by your phone’s map service (Apple Maps on iPhone, Google Maps on Android), which loads map images for the area shown.
- Email reports: when you choose to email a report, Tempo opens your own mail app with the report attached. Nothing is sent until you tap Send yourself, and it goes only to the address you choose.
These services have their own privacy policies. Tempo does not send them any other data.
5. Notifications
Tempo uses notifications on your phone to ask whether to clock out or take a break when you leave work, and to remind you before a shift or if you forget to clock out. They are created on your phone; Tempo does not use a push notification server.
6. Your choices and deleting your data
- You can edit or delete any shift, workplace or payslip check in the app.
- You can turn location, notifications, camera and photo access on or off in your phone’s settings at any time.
- Deleting the Tempo app deletes all of its data from your phone. Because we hold no copy, it cannot be recovered.
7. Children
Tempo is meant for working adults and is not directed at children under 13.
8. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. A future version of Tempo may add optional features such as an account or cloud backup; if it does, this policy will be updated before those features are available, and they will be your choice.
